FORGED: A Group Exhibition Honoring the Legacy of Philip Simmons
March 6 – March 20, 2025 | Drummond Studio Gallery | Charleston, SC
Some exhibitions ask you to look at art. FORGED asks you to feel the weight of a legacy. Opening March 6th and running through March 20th at Drummond Studio Gallery in Charleston's historic Eastside neighborhood, FORGED is a group exhibition bringing together more than 15 artists commissioned to create original works in tribute to Mr. Philip Simmons — one of the most celebrated master blacksmiths in American history.
About the Exhibition
FORGED is more than a tribute. It is a neighborhood honoring its own. Drummond Studio Gallery sits just a couple of blocks from Mr. Simmons' home and historic workshop — the very ground where he spent decades shaping iron into art, and in doing so, shaping a community.
The exhibition brings together original commissioned works alongside pieces by celebrated artists Jonathan Green and Ariana King Comer, as well as photography by Jack Alterman. These works are drawn from the gallery's personal collection and the collection of the Philip Simmons Foundation, lending the exhibition a depth that spans both artistic disciplines and generations.
A Neighbor's Responsibility
To operate a studio in such close proximity to a true Eastside legend is not something taken lightly. FORGED was created with a clear sense of purpose: to uplift every layer of this community and amplify the legacy this neighborhood deserves. Mr. Simmons was not just a craftsman. He was a pillar. And pillars deserve to be seen.
Collect with Purpose
All works in the exhibition are available for purchase. A portion of proceeds will go directly toward continuing to honor Philip Simmons and the legacy he built on the Eastside. When you collect from FORGED, you are not just acquiring art — you are investing in a story that deserves to continue.
